 A poll from the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) revealed that some 29% of respondents respected the American leader, up two percentage points from a similar survey conducted last year. In addition, one third of respondents (33%) said that though they did not approve some of Obama"s policies, they respected the choice of the U.S. people. The figure is up 10 percentage points from last year.

 James Hill began working on this project on May 9, 2006, portraying veterans in Moscow"s Gorky Park, and continued it on the same dates in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He gave each veteran he photographed a copy of the picture. He said he did not want to picture veterans in "heroic poses," because their simple looks express their heroism even better.  A new wave of unrest engulfed Bishkek"s northern suburbs on Monday morning, when some 2,000 people armed with sticks set several cars on fire and threw rocks at houses in nearby villages.
